Privacy

What personal data db-running.com collects, why, and what you can do about it. Written in plain English.

Who is responsible

This is Denny Bulman's website. Denny is responsible for the personal data it collects (in data protection terms, he is the “controller”).

Ben White AI Ltd builds and runs the site for Denny and handles partnership, sponsorship and collaboration enquiries on his behalf, so he can concentrate on his running. Ben White AI Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 17453820, registered office 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA.

The Kit's Buy buttons take you to the Ricki Robin store at ricki-robin.store, which has its own privacy policy.

The short version

  • No cookies, and no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
  • We only get personal details if you choose to send them through the contact form or the Feedback form.
  • The Speak to Denny chat is an AI, not Denny. What you type goes to our AI provider to write a reply, and we do not keep it.
  • Voting for a design needs no personal details.
  • We never sell your data or share it for anyone else's marketing.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time. Just email us.

When you browse

You can read every page without giving us any personal details. Like every website, your browser sends some technical details when it asks for a page, such as your IP address and the type of browser and device. Our hosting company, Vercel, uses these to deliver the site and keep it secure, and keeps short technical logs that are deleted automatically.

On The Kit, product pictures load from Shopify (which runs the Ricki Robin store) and vote counts load from a database run by Supabase. They see only what any website sees, never your name or anything you type.

The contact form

If you send a message from the contact page, we receive your name, your email address, the type of enquiry you pick and your message. A form delivery service called Web3Forms passes it to our inbox, which is run on Google Workspace.

We use it only to reply to you and, if it is a partnership or sponsorship enquiry, to discuss working together with Denny. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Design votes

Voting on The Kit is free and needs no personal details. The first time you vote, your browser makes a random code, rr_voter_key, and saves it on your device, so each device gets one vote per design and you can take a vote back. The design, the code and the time are stored in Ricki Robin's vote database (run by Supabase, stored in Ireland). The same vote counts appear on other Ricki Robin sites. The code does not contain your name, email or anything else about you.

Speak to Denny and feedback

Speak to Denny is an AI chat assistant, the button in the corner of each page. It is an AI, not Denny, and Denny does not see the chats. When you ask it something, what you type, the rest of that conversation and the page you are on go to our AI provider, Anthropic, so it can write a reply. We do not keep your chat on our servers or use it to build a profile of you. To stop misuse, our server briefly counts how many questions come from each connection; it does not store them.

Your browser keeps the conversation on your own device for up to 7 days, so you can pick it up again. Tap New chat to clear it. Please don't type personal or health details into the chat.

Feedback. If you send a message with the Feedback form, or with the card the assistant offers in the chat, we store the type you chose (complaint, improvement, idea or thank you), your message, the page you sent it from, your email address only if you add it, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address to stop spam. It is kept in Ricki Robin's database (run by Supabase, stored in Ireland) and goes privately to the team that runs the site. It is never sent to the AI and never shown publicly.

Why we are allowed to use it

  • Your message: to reply and deal with your enquiry. Legal basis: legitimate interests (answering you), or taking steps towards a partnership agreement if you ask us to.
  • Your vote code and votes: to count one vote per design per device. Legal basis: legitimate interests (running the vote you chose to join).
  • Chat messages: to answer the questions you ask. Legal basis: legitimate interests (answering you in a chat you chose to use).
  • Feedback: to read and act on it, and to reply if you asked us to. Legal basis: legitimate interests (improving the site and answering you).
  • Technical logs: to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object at any time (see Your rights).

Companies that help

  • Vercel Inc. hosts the website (United States, servers worldwide).
  • Web3Forms delivers contact form messages to our inbox.
  • Google (Google Workspace) runs the inbox where your message arrives.
  • Supabase Inc. runs the vote and feedback database (stored in Ireland, EU).
  • Anthropic writes the chat replies (United States). It gets what you type in the chat, not your name or email address, and may not use it to train its AI models.
  • Shopify serves the product pictures on The Kit.

Some of these companies are based in, or use systems in, the United States. Where your data leaves the UK, it is protected by safeguards UK law recognises, such as the UK-US data bridge or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Email us for details.

How long it is kept

  • Contact form messages: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any partnership that follows, then deleted. If nothing comes of it, we delete it within two years of our last contact.
  • Design votes: until you take the vote back or the votes stop running. The code stays on your device until you clear your browser storage.

  • Feedback: up to two years, or sooner if you ask us to delete it.
  • Technical logs: deleted automatically by the hosting company, normally within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, object to how we use it, or have a copy in a common format. Email support@benwhiteai.com. It is free and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Cookies and your device

This site uses no cookies. A few small settings can be saved in your browser's own storage, only when you use the feature: rr_voter_key when you vote (kept until you clear it), and dbr-swipe-hint so the “swipe between Majors” hint shows only once (cleared when you close the tab), and, if you use the chat, dbr-speak-messages (your conversation, kept for up to 7 days) and dbr-speak-session (a random chat ID). None of them is used for advertising or tracking.

Changes

We will update this notice whenever what we do with your data changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
